The Wind Independent Power Producers Association (WIPPA) celebrated its 11th Foundation Day Conference, today, in New Delhi. As WIPPA continues to play a pivotal role in fostering collaboration between wind energy developers, Independent Power Producers (IPPs), and government stakeholders to fortify India’s wind sector, the event brought together distinguished RE industry stakeholders, including Shri. B. S. Bhalla, Secretary of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), senior government officials, and leaders from the wind industry.
WIPPA has emerged as a leading national-level registered body comprising thirty-seven prominent wind developers and IPPs in India. Founded in January 2013, WIPPA facilitates constructive engagement with policymakers to shape conducive regulatory frameworks and policies that advance the interests of the wind energy sector. The conference sought to enhance awareness and visibility of the wind energy domain, thereby catalyzing accelerated progress within the sector.
Shri. B. S. Bhalla, Secretary of MNRE, while extending his greetings to every WIPPA member on the completion of eleven years emphasized that “Government has made required interventions in terms of simplified regulatory processes, reduced bureaucratic hurdles, introduced transparent and investor-friendly policies to attract domestic and foreign investment in the wind energy sector. Standard bidding guidelines, ISTS waiver, LPS, bankable PPAs are just to name a few. We have also invested in strengthening grid infrastructure and transmission networks to ensure seamless integration and evacuation of renewable energy into the grid. Our focus remains steadfast on accelerating the deployment of wind energy and achieving our ambitious RE target through collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to sustainability.”
“India’s wind sector shows a strong promise to help achieve the country’s 500 GW renewables target by 2030. The sector has moved from 1.1 GW in FY-22 to almost 4 GW (targeted) this year. The best part is that this is on the back of the Aatmnirbhar Bharat vision. India is in fact exporting wind turbines and we have more than 17 GW of manufacturing facility (on single shift basis). With the country standing at close to 45 GW installed wind capacity right at this moment, the fourth largest on the world, we are looking forward to sustained support from both the central and state governments, and regulatory authorities, to bring in faster incremental growth through the next fiscal.
